Curriculum Rationale

Over the last few years, we have been re-examining all parts of our curriculum, bringing in initiatives in key curriculum areas, such as the CYPIC creative writing system and Accelerated Reader for literacy and Maths No Problem for mathematics.  These are part and parcel of our excellent attainment standards (far exceeding both regional and national averages), but we are also conscious that school isn't just about academic results. Our re-examination of the curriculum, in partnership with the students, sought to enrich our student life whilst maximising academic benefit.  From this the students identified 5 key themes, focussed on our place in the world in which we live and 12 core opportunities/ambitions to be delivered for our young people by the time they leave Rhu, at the end of Primary 7.

Whilst we were attempting to find a graphical way of conveying these key themes to our students, we are proud to say that our students came up with the solution. Our Curriculum rationale graphic has been designed by the young people within the school to give an easily understood pictorial representation of our curriculum.
